Podcast #019-The Mountain West Digital Library

evillibrarianslogo

We have most of the staff of the Mountain West Digital Library today. This is one of the most powerful access points of information for libraries in the state of Utah. They work with institutions throughout the Mountain West and it pays to know what they do, how they can help you, and how you and your institution can join the collection. A great institution with an amazing staff.

We will be releasing a new podcast every Tuesday!

Garland Public Library Program Ideas

Here are some great program ideas from the Garland Public Library and from Dani in particular. Each of these events would work at just about any public library in Utah. Great job Garland Public Library for having fun with your teens and kids. HAVING FUN IS ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorites is the PIMP MY CART activity. Check it out and let the kids decorate your drab gray carts.

ULA Mentoring Program

ulalogo

We are all about collaboration here at Creative Libraries Utah so we are very excited about ULA’s new mentoring program. Mentoring connects individuals and the institutions that they serve. Mentoring is key to professional development and truly helps with professional satisfaction. Here is a link to the program and the announcement from the Utah Library Association.

Utah Library Association Mentoring Exchange

“Utah Library Association Mentoring Exchange

The Utah Library Association is founding a mentoring exchange. We are calling for willing mentors and interested mentees. Mentoring relationships can be essential to professional development and personal fulfillment. The mentoring relationship is personal and should be enriching to mentor and mentee alike. ULA is invested in the development and sustainability of librarians in Utah and believes a mentoring program an invaluable resource.

A small group of interested librarians will be helping connect mentors and mentees. If you are willing to be a mentor please send a short (one page) biography to [email protected] . If you are interested in being a mentee please submit a biography (including professional aspirations) to [email protected] . Once connected, no one is obligated to remain in a mentoring relationship. Each relationship will be unique and will be exclusively molded by the mentor and mentee.

This will be an ongoing program, so please feel free to inquire at any time.

Mountain West Digital Library

If you are unaware of the Mountain West Digital Library…well…STOP IT! This is one of my favorite online library resources and it is administrated right here in Utah, though it has many partners. We are going to have the opportunity to discuss the Mountain West Digital Library on November 26, 2013 with Director Sandra McIntyre on the podcast. Before that I think everyone should check out this amazing resource and consider how you can use and partner with the MWDL at your institution. Here is a blurb about MWDL from their website:

“The Mountain West Digital Library is a portal to digital resources from universities, colleges, public libraries, museums, archives, and historical societies in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Hawaii. The MWDL has these goals:

Create a distributed digital repository of significant, rare, and/or unique resources from the libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions of the Mountain West region.

Provide a public portal accessing digital collections about the Mountain West for the benefit of MWDL partners, the scholarly community at large, and the general public.

Expand the digital library vision and environment for the Mountain West region, and support the digital library development efforts of Collections Partners, including colleges, universities, public libraries, school libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, municipalities, counties, state agencies, and other entities as approved by the UALC Council.”
