Nice article! My brother was just talking to me about this book yesterday. I have added it to my list! I really like what you said about reaching out and working with others. I think this can help everyone relate to each other on a deeper level which sometimes helps with all the bureaucratic things we sometimes have to slosh through in our day to day tasks.

D'oh! Apologies, yes, this was me. I highly recommend the book. It definitely inspired me -- if you know me, you know I am an avid hater of bureaucracy, meetings, and all the like. But it's hard for me to find balance where I can benefit from the organization yet not get pulled down into the minutiae that drive me batty. I found this to be a good inspiration to keep going and teetering along that line, trying to find that balance.

I love this line, "Any time a bureaucrat (i.e. a custodian of a system) stands between you and something you need or want, your challenge is to help that bureaucrat discover a means, harmonious with the system, to meet your need" That's it -- that's our job. Get clear on a vision of what is best for our organization and our customers, then get strategic about how to bring that vision to life given the real life obstacles and challenges.

btw, who wrote this article? I don't see an author attribution

This is a great idea! We often have travelers ask what they can do on our nearby mountains. Our city just recently created a website with all the local trail maps on it, so they beat me to it. Otherwise, I would be all over this project! Thanks for a great article~
